Apply early to secure your spot in your preferred accommodations! All students must arrange housing prior to arrival. Once you are in Boston, housing options become extremely limited.

On- and Off-Campus Housing

On-Campus Residential Community

In September 2018, the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) campus was transformed when a new, state-of-the-art $120-million dollar, 260,000-square foot residential community opened exclusively for domestic and international first-year students.  Housing is not guaranteed for all first-year students and there are a limited number of rooms available.  Please contact our Student Experience Specialist at for additional information and how to apply.

This is the recommended choice for students. Benefits of staying in a homestay include:

  • Flexibility – Students can stay as long or as little as they want, with a minimum of two weeks stay.

  • Affordability – $400 a week provides a student a private room with a private bathroom (where available) furniture, laundry, internet and two meals a day.

  • Cultural immersion – Students will be able to practice their English and get an experience living with an American family.

  • Easy and quick to arrange – Students can submit a homestay application up to one week before arriving in Boston.

  • Gives students ample time to adjust to a new country and discover Boston. After living in a homestay, students can move to any part of the city that they’d like.

  • Extra time to meet people – Students can move in with their friends once they have had time to meet other UMass Boston Navitas GSSP students.

  • Note: Students who are under 18 are required to live with a host family.

To apply for a homestay with Global Immersions, please visit the application page here. In order to begin the homestay placement process, a special discounted application fee for Navitas GSSP students of $75 is required. When prompted to answer “How did you hear about Global Immersions Homestay?” on the application, please write “UMasss Boston Navitas GSSP” to take advantage of the discounted application fee.
