Your Pre-Arrival Checklist

By now you should have completed your application form and received your Letter of Offer. We have outlined the steps to follow so you can organize and prioritize your pre-departure plans. If you have further questions please contact us, we are here to help.

Pre-Arrival Steps to Success

  1. Have you booked your accommodation?
Do you know when your move-in date is? It is extremely important to also book alternative accommodations so you have a place to stay when you arrive! If not, check out our Pre-Arrival Guide for more information on accommodations.

  2. Have you cleared your conditions?
This doesn’t apply to everyone so double check your Letter of Offer to confirm if you have any conditions to clear.

  3. Have you received your visa?
You can apply directly through the U.S.A. High Commission or with help from a local representative. Please be aware of the different application processing times that differ from country to country.

  4. Have you logged into your Student Portal?
Please activate your account and register so you are fully prepared to enrol in classes when registration opens.

  5. Have you taken your Math and Writing placement exams?
It is extremely important that you log into your UMass Boston WISER account (login details emailed to you) and take these two assessments prior to course enrolment. For more information, click here.

When you arrive in U.S. you will need to know your local addresses and contact numbers.

  9. Have you visited our website to become familiar with the orientation dates and class start times?
It is necessary for you to join us at Orientation to better understand your role as a UMass Boston student while receiving important information about your program. You’ll also develop many new and exciting friendships!

  10. Enjoy this amazing opportunity to explore Boston, be an American university student, and live in the United States! Relax and spend the last days at home with family and friends. Make sure you have all their contact information so you can remain connected while abroad.
